How to choose music for your business.

Background music must be chosen and played wisely so that it is liked by all the listeners. Young audience have different taste so current chart hits would be acceptable. For mixed audience it may be better to be on the conservative side and play classical or easy listening. Always try to avoid Muzak, it may be cheap and royalty free, but it is the equivalent of call center Prozac. Ever be careful with Vivaldi.

Once upon a time it used to be the most accepted track in call centers, but it has now been over used, as it has even been parodied in a recent Nat West advert. We can have lots of other soothing, well recognized tracks. It’s better to use one of these instead. Always avoid the worst practice and use bad tracks. Amazing messages come up in the lyrics if you listen carefully. The caller may only get played a random clip of around 5 seconds. We should not give the wrong impression. Do ensure that you have a performing rights license. Always there is a requirement to ensure that you have a license from the performing rights society. It can be obtained by contacting the society through its web site. Try to use real music.

A big problem with most small telephone systems is that they come with a form of cheap canned music on hold included. Let’s take an example that you have just invested in a nice new phone system for your business, and now come the key question: what music will they hear when you put them on hold?

Astonishingly, many studies suggest that this is an important business decision that can help or hurt you. Honestly you probably haven't put much thought into your music on hold recording, have you?

Merely just because it doesn't cross your mind very often, don't fool yourself into thinking that it doesn't cross your customers' minds  especially if they get stuck on hold for any length of time. On a little initiative, you can transform your music on hold into an experience that is as profitable to your bottom line as it is pleasing to your customers' ears.

Similarly so many things in life, with music on hold you can do just enough to get by or you can go all the way. At the end, you need to weigh your choices and pick the option that is best for your company. Compact disks are a step up from radio-based moh because they provide you with complete control of the musical selection and eliminate advertising interruptions unrelated to your business. A big problem is that there may still be licensing issues and you gain no promotional benefits for your company and its products. For curing of these issues, you'll need to take it up a notch and use content that is specifically designed for use as Music on Hold.
